THE TROUBLE BREWING IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Over the past 48 hours, as at the time of writing this, seemingly coordinated and well planned terror attacks have been carried out across the state of Israel by Hamas. The timing of the attacks is rather audacious as these were carried out during the Jewish celebration of Shemeni Atzeret. The 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war. While self-styled as freedom fighters and referred to as such by many, it is important to remember that one man’s freedom fighter is another’s terrorist. However, these have clearly been terrorist attacks as some of the fighting has been directed towards civilians. A key strategy of militias and armies engaging far superior enemies in terms of on-field capability is the deployment of terror tactics against those caught in the crosshairs. This has been a recurring theme in the Russia-Ukraine war with Ukraine’s army specifically carrying out sporadic terror attacks across the border in neighbouring Russia and Crimea. A tactic that seems to have been borrowed wholesale by Hamas. Concert attendees, pedestrians amongst others were not safe from the attacks. As Hamas has rolled into town, Prime Minister Netanyahu has declared a state of war. Sadly, this has meant retaliation against civilians in attempts to rid the Gaza Strip of Hamas. An unlikely outcome. While American talking heads rage on X about how best to retaliate, it is expedient that we remember that decisions made in haste and in an emotion fuelled frenzy never bode well for the rest of the populace. The War in Iraq and the WMD scam come to mind as does the twenty year nation building hoax in Afghanistan. When chaos reigns, predators pounce. The confused and dazed public easy prey for the next money laundering scam. Totalitarianism ever beckoning at chaos’ feet. Begging for morsels and scraps to satisfy a voracious appetite. The more this beast is fed, the more it grows. Sooner rather than later this beast devours whole nations.

It has been peculiar to watch the irreligious and anti-war left cheer from the sidelines this horrible terror attack. The very thing they’ve been quick to point out Ukrainians have been doing whenever Zelenskyy’s troops carry out similar terror activities in Russia and in the Donbass region of Eastern Ukraine. This is vindictiveness masquerading as justice. A brutal riposte on the karmic scale that is seen as retaliation for the mistreatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Admittedly, some of the things that Israel has been purported to be doing in the Strip are indeed horrific. The lack of interest in earnest investigation and remedy to these purported atrocities reeks of American hubris. The same hubris that uses as a get-out-of-jail card insane nonsense creatively dubbed “rules based international order.” Free to commit crimes and free from consequence. Be that as it may, these terror attacks invite brutal retaliation against civilians in the Gaza strip perhaps the likes of which has not been seen before. The killing of civilians in broad daylight will not invite any sympathetic tones no matter the course being championed. Perhaps indifference to the Palestinian plight by many has led to this most terrible of moments. Hamas may have had an upper hand briefly but the fight they’ve been gearing up for is not even keeled. It never was. One can’t help but wonder what their endgame is. Some have speculated that the goal is to draw the wider Middle Eastern region into a conflict with Israel.

In the coming days it behoves all of us to keep our emotions in check. Blessed are the peacemakers. We need peace, not promises of reckless wars that will ignite the Middle East overnight. Many an American leader has thrown in their support for Israel as have many Americans. It is needful to remember that at the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, many MAGA faithful and #AmericaFirst acolytes threw in their lot with the Ukrainian side in opposition to the Russian invasion. Soon it became clear that all was not as it seemed and their support for Ukraine soured. Presidential candidate governor Ron DeSantis(R-Fl) vocalised his support over a bullhorn. Nikki Haley, another Presidential hopeful and former American ambassador to the UN worked out some quick metaphysics imbued with the pungent stench of hubris and managed to pull Russia into her calculations. While there seems to be no dispute that this was a Hamas-led incursion, some have already pointed the finger at Islamic Republic of Iran for orchestrating these attacks. We are however yet to have any concrete evidence that this is the case. It is peculiar though that Qatar who have been known backers of Hamas always seem to skate by. During President Trump’s administration, America’s permanent and reckless national security state was intent on starting a war with Iran. This may serve as the pretext they need to further immiserate the Iranian people and entangle America in yet another forever war. While we can only but guess at Hamas’ motives for this ill-begotten and ill-advised scheme, we can fairly surmise the response from the American side: More money for more wars. This is a most dangerous time. Calmer heads need to prevail and peace needs to be the priority.
